Vasthu Shashtra is an ancient Hindu system of architecture and design that also embodies traditional Buddhist beliefs. It literally means the 'science of leaving' and aims to achieve harmony and prosperous living by eliminating negative energies and enhancing the positive ones. Vastu means a place where you live. Shastra means a text which contains knowledge or instructions. Simply Vastu Shastra means instructions laid down for building a structure. Vastu Shastra is based on the concept of scientifically combining the five basic elements- earth, water, fire, air, and sky- to create a pleasant setting. According to ancient traditions like Vastu Shastra, the best direction to sleep in is towards the south. According to Vastu shastra, it is considered appropriate to place the idol and picture of any God on the wall on the East or North side of the house of worship.
